Richmond's New Year's Eve Going-Out Guide

New Year's Eve is one of the most exciting days of the year no matter where you are – but if you're lucky enough to spend it in Richmond, fun is elevated to a whole new level!

Richmond homes are at the center of the action when it comes to ringing in the new year right. Whether you're a resident or visitor, you're sure to find events to suit any taste.

Let's look at five big bashes scheduled for New Year's Eve this December:

  1. New Year's Eve at 7 Hills
7 Hills Brewing Company is famous for its Sunday brunch buffet. It has one of the top selections of domestic and imported beers in Richmond and plenty of fine seafood to pair it with. Not surprisingly, it's poised to be one of the top spots for "beats and eats" on New Year's Eve. Doors open at 10 p.m. and dancing will go on well into the night!

  2. NYE 2018 Moonlight Masquerade
Richmond's #1 New Year's Eve party is Moonlight Masquerade. Situated at posh DoubleTree Hotel Southside, it will feature multiple DJs playing hot hits. Semi-formal dress is expected, but that won't detract from a fun and friendly atmosphere you'll never forget! This 5-hour party with complimentary buffet and premium cash bar is selling out fast, so get your ticket soon!

  3. New Year's Eve 2018 Fiesta @ Havana59
Havana59 is known for its smokin' Latin flair, and it's going all out on New Year's Eve! Running from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., this is the place to be if you want to enjoy salsa and Latin mix from the incomparable DJ Renzo. A live viewing of the Times Square ball drop will be seen on a 60-inch TV along with a champagne toast at midnight. Early bird tickets are just $20!

  4. Casino Night New Year's Event
How about a pulse-pounding NYE get together like nothing else? It's all happening at Good Tymes Restaurant and Wine Bar. This classy restaurant and lounge combine service and sophistication in a chic atmosphere. Party-goers have the chance to try their luck at games including craps and blackjack. Get a ticket now for your shot at door prizes, a buffet, and more.

  5. Year's Eve Murder Mystery at Maggiano's
Maggiano's Little Italy is a beloved family restaurant serving hearty Italian cuisine. You can find it coast to coast throughout the United States, but it's especially popular in Richmond! The New Year's Eve Murder Mystery is an interactive all-night event that welcomes younger guests. For $65 per ticket, you'll get a three-course family-style dinner and all sorts of other fun perks!

Things to Do in Chesterfield: Swift Creek Mill Theatre

Chesterfield's Swift Creek Mill Theatre

If you're considering a relocation to the Richmond area, Chesterfield County is a great place to begin your home search.  Chesterfield is a small, family-friendly community with historic roots and architecturally diverse homes for sale. When you are searching for a home during the holidays, you'll have the opportunity to participate in local Christmas events in Chesterfield and throughout its nearby communities.

Topping our "locals' list" of favorite things to do in Chesterfield is the Swift Creek Mill Theatre located at 17401 Jefferson Davis Hwy in Chesterfield County.  Our real estate agents recommend Swift Creek Mill Theatre because it's perfect for family events, date-nights, and special occasions. The venue combines history, delicious dining, and professionally produced plays for an experience you'll always remember.

About the Swift Creek Mill Theatre

Locals call it "The People's Playhouse" and it's a wonderful place for you to experience the best of Chesterfield. The theatre is a non-profit organization committed to professional productions, youth education, and reasonable ticket prices. They accomplish these goals by presenting a Mainstage season and a Youth Theatre series offering group adult rates and discounted youth rates. Children learn theatre arts at a youth theatre summer camp. The organization also promotes the local economy by hiring a local production staff.

The theatre features two areas for on-site dining. You may choose to dine only, see a play only or you may reserve dinner and dine downstairs before seeing the play upstairs in the theatre. Past visitors have praised the theatre and restaurant for the food, attentive service, professional productions, and historic ambiance. The Swift Creek Mill Theatre receives consistently high ratings on national travel sites, such as Tripadvisor.com and Yelp.com.

A Historic Site

When you visit the Saw Creek Mill Theatre, you can connect with Chesterfield history. The theatre building is a local treasure listed on historic registers. It was built over 350 years ago and was originally constructed as a grain mill. The theatre helps maintain the building's historic standing by adhering to registry guidelines.

Our Favorite Christmas Towns in Virginia

It's a Wonderful Life in These Six Local Communities

Six Local Christmas Towns

There's no shortage of Christmas cheer here in Virginia, but six towns truly capture the spirit of the holiday season. At Napier ERA, our real estate agents love helping families create new traditions in their homes and these towns are great places to do just that.

  1. Richmond, VA
Our state capital, Richmond, is a big city with a small-town feel, especially when it's time to celebrate Christmas. While you're looking at Richmond homes this holiday season, make sure you check out all the family-friendly events (and adult-friendly night life) that comes to Richmond this month too. On December 15, visit the historic and beautiful Tuckahoe Plantation for their annual Christmas Open House. Then ring in 2018 at the Moonlight Masquerade, a New Year's Eve tradition at the Doubletree Hotel downtown.

  2. Glen Allen, VA
Did you know the North Pole has a branch right here in Virginia? Every December The Virginia Cliffe Inn, one of the most historic old homes in Glen Allen, transforms into the Glen Allen Christmas Cottage, complete with children's workshops for creating holiday crafts and toys. Visit Santa in his cottage and tinker in four different holiday children's workshops this December 9 at the beautiful inn, just 15 minutes away from downtown Richmond. Next year, get tickets ahead of time to enjoy breakfast with Santa the morning of the workshops.

  3. Petersburg, VA
From a festive holiday parade to a town-wide holiday party, picturesque Petersburg knows how to celebrate the season. If you or someone you love went to Petersburg High School, don't miss the 11th Annual PHS Alumni & Friends Holiday Party at the Civic Center on December 23. People who grew up in Petersburg (or currently have homes in Petersburg) look forward to this party all year long, and it's right before Christmas to make sure the reunion is as big as possible.

  4. Midlothian, VA
Midlothian is a Richmond suburb with a personality of its own, and holiday activities are as abundant here as its creeks. For families with homes in Midlothian, holiday cards are a cinch too. Kids can take photos with Santa at the Art Factory (this year's photo-op happens on December 7). A few days later, take the whole family to have brunch with Santa at Independence Golf Club, which is hosting the special holiday event on December 10. On December 11 and 16, Clover Hill Church hosts Christmas Mansions & Festival, a ticketed tradition that now includes an outdoor festival with food trucks, a hayride, and more.

  5. Powhatan, VA
Known for its horse pastures and rolling hills, Powhatan is a lovely place to celebrate the holidays, but make sure you visit one place in particular. At first glance, Mabel's Espresso Bakery Café looks like one of many adorable Powhatan homes. But inside, it's a charming and timeless little restaurant where you can grab a bite with friends or neighbors – or even Santa Claus himself. Don't forget to get tickets for their Santa Brunch on December 16 and their Christmas Cookie Decorating Class on December 19.

  6. Henrico, VA
Families who want a quick commute to Richmond have plenty of homes in Henrico County to choose from. Once they move in, they have plenty of seasonal activities to enjoy too! Our favorite is the Jingle Jam 2017, a huge holiday party at HOPE Church's West Creek campus on December 9. This interactive Christmas event includes farm animals, Christmas characters, a photo booth, and a show that tells the Christmas story in unique and hilarious ways.
