Our real estate agents know the value of a balanced breakfast, and you can't quite get it right without plenty of fresh produce. But farm-fresh fruits and vegetables are often hard to come by. That is unless you live in an area with plenty of thriving farmers markets like the RVA.
A farmers market serves as both a market for fresh produce and a community gathering place where locals can deepen their connection to the Earth and the way their food is produced. These open-air retail areas give consumers a chance to buy directly from farmers.
This has a number of wonderful effects on the community and economy.
Farmers markets cut costs on both sides of the equation. Produce doesn't have to be trucked from far away to reach consumers, and farmers don't have to make agreements with distributors who add costly overhead fees. Produce is fresher, and there's less environmental impact.
There are several different farmers markets throughout the RVA. While many of them are found near Richmond homes for sale, they are also distributed all across the region. When you live in Virginia, you'll never have to fret over "food deserts" where good produce isn't available.
Here's a quick look at some of the farmers market in our local communities.
Amazing farmers markets are just the beginning of what you can discover around RVA. Our expert real estate team will help you find a Virginia dream home. Whatever your goals, we give you the inside track.

Looking out over Richmond Raceway, you can almost hear the rumble of all the countless cars that have roared to victory or defeat on this iconic track. It's one of our real estate agents' favorite places in the city, and we have a feeling it might become one of yours, too.
Though it's changed in name and configuration many times over the years, Richmond Raceway has been a fixture of Richmond, VA in some form or another since the 1940s. And with NASCAR Races set to return to the raceway this September, now is a perfect time to plan a trip to this one-of-a-kind racetrack.
Richmond Raceway is a 0.75-mile, D-shaped, asphalt race track just outside of Richmond. Sometimes referred to as "America's premier short track," Richmond Raceway hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series. These, of course, are only the latest in a long line of events that Richmond Raceway has hosted, including 33 consecutive sold-out NASCAR Cup Series races.
There's nothing quite like the experience of watching a NASCAR event at Richmond Raceway, surrounded by the roar of the engines and 60,000 screaming fans. This particular raceway is also unique in that it is one of just a handful in the country that hosts all of its events at night.
Richmond Raceway hosts all kinds of events throughout the year – the Richmond Home and Garden Show, the Richmond RV Show, the Bizarre Bazaar and Southern Women's Show, just to name a few – but it is and will always be most famous for its races, which are some of the most thrilling in America.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series are set to return to Richmond Raceway this September when the raceway hosts its first-ever playoff weekend. That makes right now the perfect time to get tickets and plan your visit before the Federated Auto Parts 400 (the second race of the first round of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) hits Richmond.
Longtime fans of Richmond Raceway have something else to look forward to when September rolls around. As USA Today reports, the raceway is in the midst of major renovations, and fans who return in September will see a revamped infield with a state-of-the-art garage and walkway, brand new infield suites, and an enclosed bar and club with a covered rooftop deck that will offer a spectacular view of the racetrack.
Richmond Raceway is just 15 minutes north of Richmond, VA in Henrico County, surrounded by nearby attractions like G-Force Go-Karts, Henrico County Center for the Arts, Azalea Flea Market, and Three Lakes Park. Visit the raceway's official website to get tickets and learn more about upcoming events at Richmond Raceway.
Richmond, VA is a special place, filled with rich history and unique attractions. If you're looking for Richmond homes for sale, we're here to help. Contact Napier ERA to learn more about finding your dream home in the Richmond area.

Our real estate agents continue to be impressed by the abundance of historic buildings and homes in Henrico County, Virginia--and few are more impressive than the Walkerton Tavern. An iconic fixture of the Henrico County landscape for nearly 200 years, the Walkerton Tavern hosts events throughout the year that are open to the public, including some that you won't want to miss this holiday season.
Built by John Walker, a Massachusetts native, between 1824 and 1825, the Walkerton Tavern is located in the community of Glen Allen, along the historic Mountain Road corridor. The stately brick building was built directly across the road from Walker's residence, and served as a tavern for many years, equipped with three ice houses, a wine cellar and a horse stable to accommodate its guests.
Throughout the years, the building changed hands numerous times, and served many purposes, including many years as a private residence. The Walkerton Tavern has also functioned as a store, post office, and voting precinct, and was even used during the Civil War as a field hospital for wounded Union Cavalrymen. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Walkerton Tavern is now owned by Henrico County, who purchased it in 1995. It is used as a community center and hosts a wide variety of public events throughout the year. Be sure to stop by to check out one of our favorite local holiday events at the Walkerton Tavern, the Annual Tree Lighting
Taking place on Friday, December 2 from 4 to 7 pm, the 14th Annual Tree Lighting is a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit with friends, family, and neighbors. This free event has become a local favorite and includes festive music, hot chocolate and cookies, a toasty bonfire, and a visit from Santa himself to help light up the 60-foot tree outside the tavern.
If you aren't able to catch the Tree Lighting, but still want to check out the historic Walkerton Tavern, the building is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm, and on weekends for special events and programs. The tavern can also be rented out for private events. It is located at 2892 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA.
